Lore: Archaeologists have discovered Egyptian and Babylonian crystal scarabs, vases, and cylinders, dating back to 1500 B.C.E. Un-worked and un-engraved rock crystals were imported from Alabandina in Asia Minor by the Romans. Roman ladies would carry the crystal spears to cool their hands during the hot weather and the armies also used the crystal spears and lenses as a focus for the sun's rays to cauterize wounds that occurred in battle.
